FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
eGIX, INC SELECTS COPPER MOUNTAIN INTELLIGENT BROADBAND ACCESS SOLUTIONS FOR NEW FACILITIES-BASED BROADBAND NETWORK
Leading Provider of Integrated Communications Services Standardizes on CopperEdge® 200 Concentrators to Deliver High-Speed Data and Communication Services to Small and Medium-size Businesses in Midwest Markets
Palto Alto, CA, June 19, 2002-Copper Mountain Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMTN), a leading provider of intelligent broadband access solutions, and eGIX, a leading provider of voice and data services for individual subscribers and small to medium-size businesses, announced today that eGIX has selected Copper Mountain solutions to deliver high-speed data and enhanced communication services to business customers in the Midwest. Based in Indianapolis, Ind., eGIX has standardized on Copper Mountain’s CopperEdge® 200 DSL Access Concentrators to deliver business-class data and communication services directly through its own facilities-based network. eGIX will initially deploy CopperEdge concentrators in 23 central offices (COs) in metropolitan Indianapolis, South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana, and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. This deployment is under way, and the company plans to expand its network throughout the Midwest to 43 COs in the future.
eGIX is configuring its CopperEdge concentrators with both Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line (SDSL) and T1 line cards, enabling the company to significantly extend the reach of its advanced, business-class broadband and communication services. In addition, eGIX will use Copper Mountain’s new T1 IMA WAN module to cost-effectively scale WAN bandwidth as eGIX’s subscriber base grows. Copper Mountain’s T1 IMA WAN module uses Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) technology to bond up to eight ATM ports into a single group for a 12 Mbps WAN connection. With the T1 IMA WAN module, eGIX can begin service with a single T1 port and scale upstream bandwidth without transitioning to a more costly DS3 interface as its DSL and T1 services expand and its bandwidth needs increase. eGIX is also utilizing Copper Mountain’s CopperRocket® 201 SDSL customer premise equipment (CPE).
“eGIX is a leading provider of a broad range of unified communication and data services to small and medium-size business customers,” said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Copper Mountain Networks. “We are very pleased to support eGIX as they establish and build out their own network to deliver these advanced services directly to customers throughout the Midwest.”
“Copper Mountain’s advanced broadband-access solutions enable us to quickly provision and easily scale services as we expand our network and our customer base,” said James Kinnett, executive vice president of operations at eGIX. “The CopperEdge 200 platform’s flexibility is a tremendous plus for eGIX. With its simultaneous support for both SDSL and T1, the CopperEdge 200 enables us to serve small and medium-size businesses at extended distances from a CO. In addition, by utilizing the CopperEdge 200’s advanced multi-layer networking capabilities, we can offer highly cost-effective, multi-line packet-voice services to our customers.”
