Kelly's Techie Tip of the Month
Kelly is our lead Technical Support Representative and
helps our customers with a variety of questions each
month. Please note that the information provided in Techie
Tips is done so only as a recommendation. Any files you
download onto your computer system should be done only
after careful review of the provider's terms and
conditions, system requirements, etc. eGIX is not
responsible for any hardware or software related issues
that may occur from downloading files referenced in this
newsletter.
Often
times the effects of viruses and even the age of your PC
can result in a slow running hard drive that ultimately
becomes unmanageable. Reloading your hard drive may be
your only alternative aside from purchasing ANOTHER
computer, and THAT can be a BIG hassle... but it doesn't
have to be!
Avoid the BIG hassle of reloading your system by backing
up all your information and programs on a regular basis.
This can be a lifesaver in a situation where you must
reload your computer. See below for instructions on how to
back up your system: (May slightly vary
depending on operating system)
1.
From the Start Button, go to Programs — Accessories—
System Tools — Backup
2. Select Backup Wizard & click next
3. Select the directories you would like to back up (we
suggest selecting ALL directories)
4. Next select a destination (the location you want to
store your backup files, e.g. such as a CD Rom or
Zip disk).
5. Click finish!
We
suggest you back up the information on your system at
least once a month — just to be safe.

See
below for additional procedures to help you maintain a
healthy system.
Defrag
This organizes the files on your system and improves hard
drive performance. You can defrag your system by following
these steps:
1.
Go to your Start Button — Accessories — System Tools
— Disk Defragmenter.
2. Click Defragment. This will start the defrag process
& can take up to couple hours to complete.
Disk Clean Up
This will find all the files you do not need on your
system and then give you the option to delete them. Items
such as temporary files and recycle bin folders.
1.
Go to your Start Button — Accessories — System Tools
— Disk Clean up
2. It will then calculate how much space needs to be
cleaned up on your hard drive.
3. It will then provide you a list of items that you may
remove to free up some space on your hard drive.
Windows Update & Virus Protection
Always remember to keep your Windows updated by going to
this
website
and downloading the latest security patches and service
packs.
Protect yourself! There are new viruses coming out
everyday. Be sure to keep your virus protection updated
and your files backed up so that you may never have to go
through the hassle of reloading YOUR system!
