ASK
JEREMY...
Q. I have an eGIX email
account and I am having a difficult
time trying to get rid of all the
junk messages. I am a 68 year old
woman, and I don't need any
performance enhancing drugs, nor do
I want to buy any small cap stocks!
What else can I do to keep this spam
out of my inbox?
— Margaret, Illinois
A. Yes! eGIX does offer spam
protection for our email accounts.
Below are a few features our webmail
offers that will help you reduce the
unwanted SPAM you may be receiving.
Please note, the following features
are only applicable for users
utilizing the eGIX webmail portal.
First, you will need to log into
your email account via our web
portal at:
http://portal.egix.net.
Once you've logged in, you should
see a list of all the new messages
waiting for you.

Next to each message, you will see a
blank check box.

Place a check in the box next to any
unwanted messages.

At the bottom of your list of
messages there is a 'Move' button.
From the drop down list, select
'Spam' and then click the 'Move'
button.
Now, at the top of your remaining
messages, you should then see a
message like this:

This message indicates that our
system has now "learned" from the
messages you moved to the spam
folder, and will attempt to block
similar messages in the future. This
feature is intended to help you
'train' your account to block the
types of messages you deem
undesirable.
Next, you will want to check and
make sure your spam settings are set
at the level most effective for you.
At the top of the page you should
see a link that says 'Settings'.

Click on the link and it will bring
you to the settings page. On the
left hand side of the settings page
click the link that says 'Spam
Settings'.

The Spam settings page provides you
the ability to set the level of
protection that is most appropriate
for you. You will see options for
"Spam Detection Level", and "Spam
Treatment". By default the Spam
Detection level is "5", and the Spam
Treatment by default is set at "Mark
as Spam".
You can adjust the "Spam Detection
Level" from 10 being the lowest
protection to 1 the most extreme
protection. For the "Spam Treatment"
there are 3 options "Mark as Spam",
"Move to Spam Folder" and "Bounce
Message". We suggest that you set
your Spam Detection level between 4
and 2, and the Spam Treatment to
"Move to Spam Folder". This will
give you good protection and
minimize the possibility of our
system detecting a legitimate email
as spam. This will also give you the
option to check your Spam folder if
you are ever missing an email that
may have been mistakenly marked as
Spam.
I hope these tips on how to better
manage your Spam were helpful to
you. And please, if you have any
additional questions or concerns
regarding your Spam Settings contact
