From Our Kitchen to
Yours
This is it! The days are growing
shorter and the air is turning cool. Summer is
slowly packing up and heading out. There may only
be a few of those highly anticipated summer
barbecues left. Take full advantage. Call up the
relatives (yes, even Uncle Gus) and enjoy what's
left of summer with a few recipes from our kitchen
to yours!
Great for chicken and
fish!
Sweet Mustard Barbecue
Sauce
 1 cup
prepared mustard
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup
cider vinegar
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon
oil
1/4 teaspoon powdered oregano 1/4 teaspoon
powdered thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black
pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
Combine dry ingredients in a saucepan. Add
enough vinegar to make a mixable paste. Mix well.
Place over high heat and add remaining
ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring
occasionally.
Broccoli Salad (Serves
8)
4-5
cups broccoli, chopped
1/2 red onion,
sliced
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated
1/2
lb. bacon, fried and chopped
small pkg sun
flower seeds (roasted and salted)
Combine all ingredients except
dressing.
Dressing:
Combine 1 cup
Miracle Whip (no substitutions),
2 Tablespoons
vinegar,
8 Tablespoons sugar.
Mix well, and pour over salad ingredients.
Mix, Chill and Serve.
Deviled Eggs "with a kick"
(Serves 16-20)
 12 hard boiled eggs
1/2
cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup
mayonnaise
1/4 cup salsa
2 tablespoons
sliced green onions
1 tablespoons sour
cream
salt to taste
Cut eggs in half lengthwise.
Remove
yolks; set white halves aside.
Combine yolks
with cheese, mayonnaise, salsa, onions, sour cream
and salt. Hand whip with fork until
smooth.
Spoon yolk mix back into the halved egg
whites.
